Cleaning the house and fighting Coronavirus with Lysol Disinfectant Spray

January 31, 2020

Hiya, mommas!

You'll probably heard about a certain type of Lysol all over the internet that can disinfect the house and kill causing germs like the feared "human coronavirus".

Me and my daughter recently went to a nearby and local grocery at Robinsons Supermarket and found ourselves looking at the shelf for Lysol. I carefully looked at the variants and have only seen the label "human coronavirus" at the back of the packaging for this variant - "For Baby's Room" The stock was low - only 3 pcs cans at that time so I immediately grabbed a can for our home.

Compared to the other Lysol variant, this can is priced higher at P414.00/can while the other variants that I saw without the specific "human coronavirus" is priced below P400.00. We don't really use Lysol around the house as I've always used 70% alcohol to mop and clean the floor, door knobs, light switch, etc. So I'm not familiar with other Lysol products or variants. There was only 4 variants at the shelf and none of them has the back label same as this one so I can't really recommend another or cheaper variant.

On the back of the can, the label says that we can use it for:
  • Kitchen
    • Sinks
    • Garbage Cans
  • Bathroom
    • Bathtubs
    • Showers
  • Home
    • Door Knobs
    • Diaper Pails
  • Soft Surfaces
    • Mattresses
    • Sofas
Remember that this products doesn't claim that it can 100% eliminate the virus and germs but only the following:
  • Helps fight the spread of germs
  • Kills cold and flu virusest
  • Kills 99.9% of Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae in 20 seconds on soft surface.
  • Kills odor-causing bacteria
  • Sanitizes household surfaces in 10 seconds
Direction For Use:

To Deodorize:
  • Spray on surface as needed.
To Sanitize:
  • Surfaces must be wet for 10 seconds then allow it to air dry.
To Disinfect:
  • Surface must remain wet for 3 minutes then allow to air dry.
if in case you cannot find this specific can or if the grocery near you runs out, I've checked Lysol in Lazada's LazMall and they still have it and at a much cheaper price it you buy in bulk:

If you're looking for other ways to disinfect and clean the house, I also found out that the Zonrox has Coronavirus fighting properties as well. This is the post of my fellow blogger friend about it:

The most important part to remember is to always clean you hands. *wink

Rookie Mommy PH - time to do some cleaning!

[PR] Four Common Urinary Health Issues Among Mature Adults

January 29, 2020

The kidneys are two bean-shaped size organs located below the rib cage behind the belly that filters the blood and removes wastes and excess fluids from the body in the form of urine. The bladder, located in the pelvis, stores the urine before it signals the brain that the person is ready to empty it. A healthy bladder can hold up to 16 ounces of urine for two to five hours.

As we age, our urinary functions may change. The kidney’s filtering capacity, as well as the bladder’s storage capacity may decrease. Bladder muscles may also weaken. Blockage of the urethra, the tube where the urine passes through during urination may also  occur.

These may result in kidney and bladder problems, and here are the four common types you should know:

Urinary incontinence – The loss or decreased ability to hold urine caused by weakened urethral sphincter, the muscles used to control the exit of the urine. It affects twice as many women than men. Two of its most common types are stress incontinence wherein coughing, sneezing, or laughing can cause urine leak and the other one is urge incontinence or the strong desire to urinate that cannot be postponed.

Urinary retention – The inability to completely empty the bladder, there are two general types of urinary retention: obstructive and non-obstructive. Obstructions like kidney stones and enlarged prostate block the urine from flowing freely. Weak bladder muscle and nerve problems cause non-obstructive retention that gets in the way between brain signals and bladder. If the nerves are not working properly, the brain fails to receive the message that the bladder is full. Some of the common causes of non-obstructive urinary retention are stroke, vaginal birth, pelvic injury, impaired muscle due to medication, and brain or spinal accidents.

Urinary tract infection or UTI – This is an infection in any part of the urinary system: kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. Most of the infections are found in the lower urinary tract, the bladder, and the urethra. While men are also at risk, women are more prone to UTI because women have a shorter urethra than men which allows bacteria to reach their bladder quicker than men’s. Blockages in the urinary tract caused by kidney stones or enlarged prostate retain urine in the bladder that heightens the risk of UTI.

Chronic kidney disease – This means that the kidneys are damaged categorized as mild, moderate, severe, and end-stage. Hypertension and diabetes mellitus are the most common causes of kidney disease.

While these conditions cause discomfort, embarrassment, and long-term health problems, the good news is it can be managed. Phil.-US Dietitian-nutritionist Cheshire Que shares these four tactics that bear repeating because when it comes to healthy habits, we always go back to the basics:

Be Physically Active – Sitting is the new smoking. Lack of exercise can render the pelvic floor muscles incompetent which leads to urinary incontinence. You may try various pelvic floor exercises to strengthen your muscles that support pelvic organs such as bladder and bowel.

Keep Hydrated - The sense of thirst diminishes as we age. Do not wait until your throat is parched. Regularly take sips of water throughout the day. A good 8 glasses are adequate in a day. Add more if the weather is hot as well as before, during, and after exercise.

Clean Correctly - For females, wash and wipe your private parts from front to back to prevent UTI. Men must also regularly wash. Both must always wear clean and dry underwear preferably made of cotton material.

Watch What You Eat - Salty and spicy foods must be avoided especially of those who suffer from urinary incontinence and UTI. Adequate intake of lean high biological value protein from must be observed when dealing with Chronic Kidney Disease. It is not just the amount of protein that needs to be considered but more importantly, the quality. Proteins from animal sources such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and yogurt have a higher biological value than those from plant sources like plants, legumes, grains, nuts, seeds, and vegetables.

Incontinence, while not life-threatening, has the potential to negatively impact lives. In addition to a healthcare professional’s guidance and advice, you also need the right pad. So Sure Bladder Leakage Pad is your partner, a brand you can trust to provide you your much needed protection against discomfort and embarrassment brought about by leaky bladders. It is made of high quality super absorbent cotton that keeps the sensitive area dry, keeping bacteria and infection at bay. Unlike your regular menstrual pad, So Sure has a blue acquisition layer that quickly absorbs a heavy amount of urine. [PR] 6 Reasons Why You Should Switch to Jeunesse Anion

Menstruation is a fundamental function of our reproductive system. A reproductive system that is well taken care of leads to a fit sexual and reproductive condition. It keeps us away from diseases such as reproductive and urinary tract infections and bacterial vaginosis. Menstrual health practices that contribute to infections include poor personal hygiene and the use of a low-quality sanitary pad.

It is our right to be able to manage our menstrual health with adequate knowledge and safety. And part of it is to be able to choose a superior pad we can entrust our sexual and reproductive health with. Jeunesse makes a variety of anion pads available for any situation, whether night or day, or light or heavy, for a hassle-free monthly period. And here are a multitude of reasons why you should pick Jeunesse Anion Pads:

  1. Extra Boost of Softness – Jeunesse Anion Pads are made of super soft virgin pulp and non-recycled cotton material that guarantee an extra boost of softness. It is free from the plastic top that makes chafe and rashes into nonexistence. It is also dirt-free and sterilized which is a huge plus!

  1.  Non-Toxic – It is free from synthetic materials rayon and polyester, as well as potent chemicals such as fragrances, chloromethane, chloroethane, chloroform, acetone, and toxic industrial adhesives. While perfume might smell nice, they are more dangerous than you think. We don’t want any of them near our privates.

  1. Breathable – Plastic suffocates your pad. Jeunesse cares about your health by creating a pad that can breathe. You know well that bacteria multiply more rapidly in an environment that has less oxygen. Jeunesse pads allow maximum airflow that takes away that icky, wet feeling. Air permeability eliminates unpleasant odor too.

  1. Thin but Highly Absorbent – It turns liquid into gel to ensure that no leakage and stains occur even at full capacity. This brand simply does not disappoint because for Jeunesse, thin means superior liquid retention anytime of the day.

  1. Built-in with Anion Strip – Its special anion chip releases negative ions once it contacts with moisture. This negative ions’ interaction with bacteria and fungi, whose job is to release the pungent smell and cause rashes, effectively weakens and destroys them. Stinky odor will never be an issue for you because anion is a natural deodorizer. Negative ions also attach themselves to bacteria in large numbers, making it too heavy to be transported by air.

  1. Resealable Packaging – Its packaging is one of its kind. It is made of resealable aluminum foil for double protection from contamination. And added to that, it is resealable.

There you have it. The reasons why you will love Jeunesse Anion Pads. What makes it perfect is it starts with high-quality materials. It is comfortable and most importantly, it is safe. Jeunesse is a brand that cares about our menstrual health not only during the time of the month and it’s in it for the long haul!
Available in five variants – ultra‐day pad, day pad non-‐wing, ultra-night pad, all-night, and panty liner. Each packed as a canvass of comfort and freshness for a hassle-free monthly period. You can find them at Watsons, selected Mercury Drug and South Star Drug outlets, SM department store’s health and beauty section, Robinson’s Supermarket and selected department stores, Shopwise, Rustan’s Supermarket, Waltermart, Landmark Department Store, PCX stores, selected Metro Gaisano outlets, plus other selected stores in Visayas and Mindanao.
