You'll know when they're ready: Potty training a 3 year old

February 23, 2019

Hiya, rookie mommas!

It's been a while since I blogged anything about my motherhood journey so I'm very much excited to share my experience with potty training my 3 year old daughter as well as some of my personal tips that I do wish comes handy when it's time for you to potty train your kids too. *wink

Potty training has been one of my frustrations because it's something that I don't really know how to do. I've probably read all the tips the internet can offer but none of them really worked for me and my daughter. I've asked for tips from my grandmother and my mother-in-law, tried it but didn't work for us as well.

I'm not an expert on this matter but one thing I realized, and what we should all realize is that our kids are different and they just have their own way of telling us whey they are ready for something new or maybe a new milestone.

For us, I am not really sure how early or how late we are in potty training. I've seen a lot of kids who are potty trained at 2 and some are as late as 5 years old. And I am one of those mommas who have fancied buying cute little potties but never did my daughter used them.

One item I discovered that jumped start our potty training is this soft potty baby seat that I saw while we were shopping in SM Department Store in North Edsa branch.

I was fascinated by this to be honest and I didn't hesitate to get one. The sales lady offered me this Hello Kitty version. My daughter is familiar with Hello Kitty and I thought maybe seeing the cartoon character might encourage her to use it.

The size fits a standard sized toilet so you don't have to worry about it not fitting  your toilet.

Signs of readiness.

Arya is already used to just wearing underwear but she always peed on them. When we started potty training using this potty seat, I immediately noticed some changes on her behaviours when she is a bout to pee.

  1. She will repeatedly touch her peepee before peeing.
  2. She will cross her legs and walk back and fort as if looking for a spot where she could pee.
  3. She suddenly doesn't like to wear diapers during the day.
Whenever any of the above mentioned happens, I will ask her is she wants to pee. She usually don't answer but I still take her to the toilet. I'll put the potty seat on and will let her sit on it. We're successful making her pee this way. I'll grab the bidet and she'll be the one to flush the toilet.

I let her see herself peeing while she's on the potty seat so that she can remember that that where she is supposed to pee.

We have been doing that for probably a week and just recently, she started saying "wiwi" whenever she wants to pee. Sometimes, there's no signs that she's about to pee so I make sure that I ask her or take her every after a few minutes or hour. It's definitely a milestone for us on potty training her.

We haven't tried making her poop though and that's where I am having difficulty with because she's just used to pooping standing up and hiding behind the curtains. Whenever I see her almost poop-face and try to take her to her potty, she just wouldn't poop in it.

Suddenly, all my potty training frustrations went away and just realized that maybe, when I was training her before, she was just not ready for it yet. And now that she's becoming more interactive and becoming more verbal on the things she likes, it kind of made it easier for us to do the training as well.

I honestly think that consistency is the key and just feeling and making sure that they are ready for it.

Advice:

Don't force it. Or maybe don't start too young? I don't know. I think, the proper age for potty training is when they can fully understand things we say and why we say it. Why it happens and such. It should not be frustrating and it shouldn't be complicated for you and your child but it should be a shared fun and learning experience.

Wishing you well on your potty training journey!

UNBOXING: Althea's first ever makeup line! + Swatches + The Look

February 1, 2019

Hiya, rookie mommas and Kbeauty fanatics!

I am back with another exclusive Kbeauty haul from Philippine's fave online Korean beauty store - Althea.

Althea just recently launched a whole new collection of makeup for the first time ever and aren't excited for that?! Althea has been know for selling great skincare products made by their own brand as well as products from popular Korean beauty brands.

Now, we all know that I'm an all skincare type of girl but Im not gonna say no to this! I am just so excited for their progress that I actually signed-up to be one of the few Althea Angels to get the exclusive makeup box.

Disclaimer: I'm no makeup expert or guru. :p

Let's get down to all the kbeauty deets. Here's the Althea makeup collection, starting with the Sunrise and Moonrise Eye Palette in collaboration with an Indonesian star, Bunga Citra Lestari.

Seriously, you guys, how gorgeous is this eyeshadow palette?! I don't anything about doing eye makeup but I know a great palette when I see one. The colors are amazing and very pigmented by the way. You can simply create your day look as well as your night time glam look with this with all that sparkly shades.

I tried using this palette, the only eyeshadow palette that I have tried in my whole life of existence up to this day. I don't have brush so I just used my fingers to apply the product and I was really impressed by how I was able to pull it off considering that I have zero experience on putting on eyeshadow. I'll share the look at the end of this blog post. Promise!

Who doesn't love and have concealers? FYI, these concealers are very creamy and easy to work with. I picked Ginger shade and paired it with a BB cream and they matched perfectly. The concealer itself is not cakey and blends in well with the base product that I used so I have no complain. I usually opt out of using concealers on days that I have to, I usually go on full makeup. Love the shades as well! I like that they have darker shades so for us, Filipinas, it will be easier to match. In fact, they are very pigmented that you can actually just wear them on as a base or a foundation. Totally workable!

super cheap and in stock!

Nobody can have too much glitter on. Trust me. These Spotlight Eye Glitter are just perfect for your eyelids and under eye are so you can glam day and night. Now, personally, I'd love to put glitter on the tear duct area of my eye when it's party time. Wink!

THESE SHADES ARE TO DIE FOR! I've always been a fan of lip and cheek tints because they're very easy to use but most of the tints I've used before are water based so they tend to be very watery. These cream tints glides on my lips really smoothly and It leaves on that ombre lips similar to how Koreanas do it on Kdramas. If yah know what I mean. Smells really good too and damn! They're so hard to get off. I tried using an oil makeup remover, baby wipes, micellar water but girl no, this tint ain't gonna go that easy.

On using them on your cheek, you have to put small dots only because it's very pigmented already. You don't want your cheeks burning red right, you want them just right. :)

I immediately tried using all these products on my face and here's what they looked like on me:

AFTER:

Makeup works wonders on our skin. Really. I mean, look at my before photo. Damn, all those late nights at work, Netflix, and baby stuff. Ha!

This is the first ever makeup blog post that I have put up on this blog. Let me know if it's fun and want more. :)

Cheers!

Xoxo,
Rookie Mommy - I'm totally loving this makeup line. Not gonna line. Go get it!
