Shorthorn Pares: Putok Batok sa Sarap!

May 31, 2018

Me and my husband celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary today. Nothing too fancy, we just wanted to dine out since Arya is staying with my in laws until this weekend.

I'm gonna keep this short, sweet, and drooly. My husband took me to Shorthorn Pares house near our place. It's just a 10 minute drive from my mom's house. I'm not a huge fan of Pares because it's sweet, but I've always had a soft heart for beef and seeing the photos of huge bone marrows on Shorthorn's Facebook page was enough to make us hustle to this growing popular Pares house.

So, if you love Pares, huge chunks of bone marrows, and a hearty soup. I suggest you get your ass immediately to Shorthorn Pares!

PS: I rarely blog about food, and you should know that if you're a regular visitor here on my site. I mean seriously, THIS. IS. TO. DIE. FOR!

We ordered HB Pares "High blood Pares" at P180.00 pesos.
It comes with 1 serving of beef pares with huge bone marrow, garlic rice,
and a soup.

They torch the bone marrows so that it will not produce sebo.

Here's a screenshot I took from my husband's video of me, seriously enjoying
this mouthwatering, melting bone marrow fat.

I wish I could order a pitcher of the sabaw! It was soo good!

It's one of those moment that I will never forget. Look at the size of that bone marrow!

Solid, rich, fattyness...

Kitang-kita naman sa muka ko yung kasayahan na naidulot niya, diba?

Yung feeling nya is ramdam na ramdam mo din yung kasalanan habang sumusubo ka at pakiramdam ko nabawasan ng 1 year yung life span ko. Haha!

Seriously tho, try it for yourself. I'm not just gonna blab about how good it is. *wink

Shorthorn Pares house is located at 3 Shorthorn Street Project 8 Quezon City, Philippines.

Here's a few info posted on their Facebook page that you might find helpful:

One memorable Mother's Day event at SM City Sta.Mesa

May 17, 2018

Hey, rookie mommas!

How was your Mother's Day celebration last weekend? I hope you had a great time, because I did have a wonderful and memorable Mother's Day last week.

I was invited by SM City Sta.Mesa to attend their Mother's Day event and was so glad that I did. I was able to met a few notable people that I never knew I could meet.

I instantly became friends with Dra. Antonietta Gomez, a pediatric doctor from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Dra. Antonietta discussed so many things related to our kids. One particular topic that I made sure I remember is that in today's generation, it's really difficult to discipline our kids. So, she helped me understand that "Time Out" can really help if made in to a routine when disciplining a child. Making sure that the rules are laid out and that the child understands why he or she is being given a Time Out.

I personally haven't had the time to try this method with Arya. I'm one of those moms who easily give in to their child's tantrums.

Another issue she mentioned is how the use of gadgets below the ages of 2 greatly affects the speech development of our kids.

I for one, is totally with Dra. Antonietta on this one. I have used a tablet and a mobile phone to calm my child ever since she was a baby. Sure, I admit, Arya really knows her technology but I am already seeing the results of that today. She's already turning 3 this July however, I noticed that she hasn't started conversing with full sentences yet. Compared to the other kids her age that I'm seeing inside the malls or play place, I do feel like my daughter is behind on her speech and I for one is to blame...and of course, the excessive use of gadgets.

Dra. Antonietta did mentioned that it is never too late to correct a child's bad habit. Start them young, she said. Limit the gadget use to maybe 1 - 2 hours a day, and only use it when really needed.

Dra. Grace Delos Angeles, an OB - GYNE at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital was also present and she discussed a lot of important things too, like, the sickness women get when we don't practice good hygiene down there, if you know what I'm talking about. The point is, if you feel something not normal happening to your body, especially to your private parts, make to a point that you seek the help of a professional doctor, and not Google, or even try self-medicating. We want to prevent the worse from happening so it's better to go seek immediate help when you see or feel something alarming the first time.

LJ Reyes, from GMA 7 was also there and she talked about her new smartphone app called Smart Mommy App or MApp - it's definitely a must-have app for mommies like us! Check it out here.

Charyzze Solomon was also there for the entertainment. Love her and her back up dancers! I would have put up photos of them but it's just too blurry.

Renee Funtanilla, Mktg Manager of Flawless also gave her talk on how, us moms can better take care of our skin. I've always been a Flawless girl, I usually opt for their Pimple Mask Facial whenever I have breakouts.

Let's not forget about me too! I was there promoting our First Time Moms PH community to an amazing momma crowd! It was indeed a wonderful Mother's Day for me. It was also a first time for me to celebrate momma day away from my daughter for a day and it was really nice to, you know, get away even just for a few hour. *wink.

Again, I am very thankful to SM Sta.Mesa for inviting me to their Mother's Day event.

Six Ways to Kick-Start Your Fitness Routine According to Celebrity Triathlete Carlene Aguilar-Ocampo

May 15, 2018

We can describe moms in many ways—hard working, hectic, hurried. But how about healthy?
Living and loving a balanced life these days is close to impossible, especially for mothers who wear many hats on a daily basis. That’s why we’ve sought the help of celebrity beauty queen turned tri-athlete Carlene Aguilar-Ocampo, for her tried and tested tips on how a hands-on mom like her, remains rock-solid while juggling with family, work, and other commitments.

  1. Make it a family affair. “My three boys and I love spending time together in action. Not only we eat out, watch movies together, or go to the mall, we enjoy being on the move as well. Activities like wall climbing, swimming, and fun runs are just some of the things we love to do as a family!” said Carlene. “This way, we can take their eyes off their gadgets and look forward to doing engaging activities that make us closer than ever, “she added.

  1. Challenge yourself. We’re not saying that intimidation is just in your head, the struggle is real, ladies! But for Carlene, a larger than life transformation is possible when you push yourself harder and stronger. “I started the sports in 2016 with losing weight as the ultimate reason in mind. But as time passed by, I realized that this is something I wanted to be seriously part of, so I joined an aquathlon and unexpectedly bagged the 3rd place. And as they say, the rest is history!” she quipped. “My point is that it’s never too late to achieve your dreams in life as long as you’re ready to tackle them with determination.” Truly, Carlene proves that mastering the elusive work-life balance can be tricky, but getting out of our comfort zone is one of the secrets to ensure we’re always on top of our game!

  1. Set a goal and stick to it.  Carlene’s triathlon career was marked by small beginnings with getting that foot out of the door as the first step. And the truth is, whether in sports or other things in life, not all situations or people will be on our side. “Obstacles are fact of life, but if we focus on what we’re not or what we can’t do, we wouldn’t have the time, energy, and even the motivation to move towards our goal. Where do you want to go? What should you start now or stop doing? Do you want to think why you don’t have time to get moving or are you going to shift your focus on how you can get up 30 minutes early so you can set yourself towards your goal? What is it worth to you?” said Carlene.

  1. Find something that motivates you.  According to Carlene, “There was a time that my weight went on a plateau and I wanted to shed those extra pounds. But then, hitting the gym wasn’t for me, because I’m the type who wants to do something different every day. Triathlon brings out the best in me and I’m pretty jazzed about the challenge of becoming better every race.”  And for Carlene, it doesn’t also hurt that she has got three fun-loving kids who keep her motivated. “I have three boys—my eldest Calix who’s ten, followed by Marcus who’s six, and my youngest Hunter, now three. I want to be able to keep up with their strength and energy year after year, so getting fit and healthy is an absolute must to make it happen for me.”

  1. Get-up-and-go. Not a morning person? Carlene shares some tips how you can (happily) get up at the crack of dawn, “While everyone requires a different amount of sleep, I’ve discovered that being a morning person starts at night, in your bedroom. Set boundaries with work, social media, other areas of your life that may cause restlessness, and have a consistent bed time. It’s a discipline with tons of benefits—more time to prepare for the day, increased productivity, and better performance at work.” Does she think it has a better advantage than working out at night? “Absolutely, exercise is an instant energy boost and a great way for the body to release the happy hormones, endorphins. Whether it’s a run, swim, bike, yoga, or gym—it’s a sure fire way to get pumped for the day ahead!

  1. Love yourself. “Loving yourself in a balanced way won’t only be beneficial for yourself but for people around you. The old adage you can’t give what you don’t have can’t be truer, so embracing who you are and how God created you to be is vital to becoming an emotionally healthy person. Carlene adds, “Besides, if you won’t take care of yourself, who else will? Looking good and feeling better is just the beginning, I know that my choice of keeping myself in excellent shape allows me to be an effective conduit of love and strength for other people.”

There are actually tons of doable and simple little things to start your wellness routine off right. And for active and athletic Carlene, she doesn’t undermine the importance of sanitary pad that provides an all-around protection when that time of the month rolls around. “I’m partial to Jeunesse Anion that provides a reprieve from odor, stain, and leaks. Most importantly, it stays where it should be. In fact, my daily must-have is the panty liners to keep me fresh and worry-free. All variants, especially with wings are also consistently reliable for my day-to-day grind whether at work, home or on the run!”

BACK TO SCHOOL IN STYLISH COMFORT WITH DR. KONG SHOES

May 12, 2018

Dr. Kong Philippines opens the school year with the perfect pair, mother-daughter Melissa and Kiera Ricks.
Dr. Kong, known for its dedication to foot and spinal care, provides the perfect school shoe: stylish but also comfortable and durable.
The start of the school year sees parents in a shopping frenzy. Finding the ideal school shoe, however, proves to be a real challenge. School shoes often are too painful to walk in or look too bland for kids to enjoy wearing. It is even harder to find a pair that could last through the year.
This problem is all too familiar to Dr. Kong Philippines’ President, Mike Sy. His son used to wear out two to three pairs of school shoes of another brand per year. Seeing how his son’s first pair of Dr. Kong school shoes lasted for more than a year while also improving stride, Sy decided to bring in the brand from Hong Kong.
“In Hong Kong, Dr. Kong is almost their national school shoe. This is because of Dr. Kong shoes’ durability and benefits to proper foot care,” said Mark Tan, Dr. Kong Philippines’ Marketing Director..
Joining Dr. Kong in their advocacy for foot health and care is another perfect pair, Melissa Ricks and her 3-year-old daughter, Kiera.
“We chose Melissa and Kiera because they are the perfect mother-daughter pair. They share their adventures both big and small via social media and are followed by an audience who strongly relates to them,” said Mark Tan.
Ricks is excited about her first ad campaign with Kiera, more so seeing Kiera’s expression when she realizes she’s on billboards all over the metro. The two have been happy users of Dr. Kong shoes even before they signed on as endorsers.
“We have loved their shoes from the start. My daughter, every time I tell her to pick what she wants to wear, always picks her Dr. Kongs,” said Ricks, who has the perfect reason for getting Kiera Dr. Kong shoes. “Healthy feet, happy toddler.”
Because kids need the perfect school bag, too, Dr. Kong will give away one spine pressure-free mini backpack for every purchase of two pairs of shoes during the back to school season. This backpack helps protect the spine while the child is walking or running.
Dr. Kong carries a complete line of school shoes for boys and girls, including classic black shoes and white gym shoes in various designs. Casual children’s shoes and sandals are also available.
Dr. Kong shoes are available at the following branches for Metro Manila: SM City Fairview, SM City North Edsa at The Block, The Podium, Sekai Center Greenhills, Greenhills Promenade, Robinsons Galleria, Robinsons Place Manila, Uptown Mall BGC, SM Aura Premier, Robinsons Magnolia, Glorietta 5, Greenbelt 5, Lucky Chinatown Mall, and Ayala Malls The 30th. For those from the south, these comfy shoes are also available at: SM City Bacoor, Ayala Malls Serin, Nuvali Solenad 3, SM Mall of Asia, Festival Mall, and SM Southmall. Dr. Kong is also available at SM Seaside City Cebu and Abreeza Mall Davao.

Kickstart your child’s summer vacation: Why your child should try football this summer

May 8, 2018

It’s every child’s favorite time of the year again! No school for a couple of months, later bedtimes and wake up calls, and more time to play with friends (and maybe even make new ones, too!). Summer vacation also means parents get to enroll in their children in all sorts of summer activities. From enrichment classes to sports electives. The choices are endless.

With a ton of different activities to choose from, it could be overwhelming for some parents and children. Why not try the sport that’s bound to be the talk of the town this summer? With the World Cup coming up this June, now is the best time to get your children into football. Need a little more convincing? Here are just a few reasons why football is the perfect way to go this summer.
  • It’s played outdoors. By playing football, children are encouraged to run around on an open field, roll around in the mud and bask in the sunlight. It’s the perfect break from indoor activities.
  • It’s a social activity. Football is a team sport and one of the few sports where you cannot win with individual superstars. When playing football, children are encouraged to collaborate with each other, pass to their teammates and play as one unit.
  • It develops gross motor skills. Do not be fooled by the word ‘football’ because this sport does not only develop fast feet, but also requires full body coordination. Football players develop a good understanding of how their body moves by performing coordination and agility drills.
  • Cognitive development. Because of the nature of the game, playing football helps children enhance their visual-spatial awareness, as well as their problem-solving skills. They’re cognitive flexibility is also improved as the game is quick-paced and would require them to think on their feet (no pun intended).
  • We win some, we lose some. Your children will learn that sometimes we win, sometimes we lose and that’s okay. At the heart of every AFC, FIFA and UAAP football tournament is the concept of ‘fair play.’ This is a phrase your little one will hear often as football players are encouraged to play with full hearts, adhere to rules and accept defeat graciously.
  • Healthy living. Running around all morning is a great way for your little one to exercise and play without it feeling like a chore or another thing to check of their to-do list. It is also a good time to start introducing healthy food with the promise of running faster, playing longer and getting more energy.

Introducing your child to football this summer goes beyond just learning a new sport or just having fun, but also teaches them some important things they may need when they’re older. We have to remember that children have very absorbent minds so whatever we allow them to experience while they’re young will become their foundation for later life.
“Our program hopes to provide a positive learning environment for the youth and their parents and guardians. It focuses on holistic development carried out through an athlete-centered approach. This means that our program is designed around what our players are interested in and what they need. Similarly, we try to forge a partnership with the parents as we promote healthy encouragement and try to veer away from the ‘win at all costs’ mentality,” shares Coach Anto Gonzales, UP Diliman Men’s Football Team head coach and founder of the Aspire Football Academy.

With 25 years of experience playing and coaching football, Coach Anto now wishes do his part in promoting the development of football at the grassroots level. Along with Coach Anto is a dedicated team composed of his former players with backgrounds in Sports Science, Physical Education, Family Life & Child Development and extensive coaching experience who have created a program perfect for your little one.
Aspire’s first module just finished, but don’t worry, a second one is about to start on May 12, 2018. So, what are you waiting for? Book a session for your children with Coach Vince Aguilar at 0917.862.0802 or you may also visit the official Facebook page for more details: https://web.facebook.com/aspirefootballph/

Erceflora ProbiBears: Mommy's 2-in-1 Probiotic Supplement for her kids

May 7, 2018

There is nothing worse than having your child get sick with painful tummy problems. Kids tend to have a higher risk of getting digestive health-related diseases such as diarrhea and constipation from harmful bacteria. A stomachache isn't only comfortable; it alters the child's mood and his or her attitude for the day.

As a parent, this definitely causes emotional stress because we don't want to see our kid experiencing any kind of discomfort.

Expert says probiotics may help ease your child's digestive disorders and make potty training more manageable.

What are probiotics, which have been showing up in a lot of kids' products lately? As a mom, you want to know what probiotics are and which one to choose for your child.

Probiotics are live microorganisms that help maintain the balance of good and bad bacteria in digestive track. It works like this: A human digestive tract has about 100 trillion healthy bacteria. Bacteria aid in digestion and help the body defend itself against illness. Thus, probiotics can aid with immunity and help protect you from common colds and flu.

Every person, child, or adult, needs a balance of good bacteria in the body. However, this balance is easily upset by a number of factors such as a poor diet, stress or by taking antibiotics and other medication.

Children can get probiotics form eating yogurt and beverages that contain probiotics. However, the amount and quality of probiotics in those food and beverages may not be enough.

It's a good thing there is Erceflora ProbiBears, a yummy tummy supplement with the combined 2-in-1 PROBIO-BOOSTER of not just Lactobacillus acidophilus, but also Bifidobacterium lactis - good bacteria that help prevent gut  problems such as diarrhea, upset stomach, and other digestive illnesses to help keep kids happy and healthy every day. It's the delicious and healthy way to strengthen your child's tummy in yummy chewable bears.

Lactobacillus is good bacteria that are present in a lot of food. A study has shown that Lactobacillus was an effective treatment against infant colic and even helped improve immunity. Bifidobacterium, on the other hand, helps ease digestive issues such as bloating and flatulence. It also has a longer shelf life.

From the makers of the World's #1 Probiotic, ProbiBears will reassure moms that their kids stay healthy in the tummy! Moreover, their kids will love it because it comes in fun and yummy chewable bears!
