PR: Helping children with learning disabilities and difficulties through The Reading House

July 20, 2017

The Reading House is a Literacy Center that aims to help children with Learning Disabilities and Difficulties. The services of The Reading House covers all the sub-skills of reading that we use in order to read continuous passages meaningfully. The Reading House believes that technology is a powerful tool that we all can use to learn effectively. Along with the time-tested multi-sensory approach, The Reading House chose iSpire as its main program to build reading success through an intensive, structured and spiraling curriculum that combines phonemic awareness, phonics spelling, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency in a dynamic 10-step Lesson Plan.

The Reading House is a venture that took almost a decade to come to life. Teacher D, the co-founder and director of the center, over the years of teaching, developed a love for children who learn differently. On her first year of teaching, she learned about the different Learning Disabilities and an effective approach on how they can learn efficiently. When she decided to try out other teaching environments, she brought with her this genuine concern and love for children who learn differently. Teacher D grew close to her students who were flagged as “slow” or “behind”. That is when she realized that she wanted to build a place where she can help these children.

A place where children can feel confident as they learn, a place where tasks are designed to be success – oriented with the aims of removing these children’s feeling of frustration towards learning. The services that The Reading House offers are carefully designed to prepare its students to become mindful learners of the 21st century. It begins with finding out where the learner is and branches out to different programs that would address the different learning needs of a child.

The Reading House also believes that it takes a village to raise a child, so it willingly works with the parents in coming up with ways that can effectively help the child to learn at his/her own pace. To do this, The Reading House, provides a comprehensive written report to the parents to update them of their child’s progress throughout the program.

Now that The Reading House is open for everyone, it aims to make learning an equal for everyone. The Reading House is a place where your child can develop strategies and techniques that will make them effective and efficient learners of the society.

My latest haul from Shipping Cart

July 12, 2017

Hello, shoppingeras!

If you've been following this blog since the start then you know how much of an online shopper addict I am.

I've recently posted an unboxing video of my recent haul from US online stores via Shipping Cart here and posted a photo of my haul on Instagram so you've probably seen all that. :)

Shipping Cart is not new to me. I've used their service twice before and posted a lengthy review. Which you guys can check out here:

How To Use ShippingCart.com To Get Your Lippies From KylieCosmetics.com And Colourpop.com

Let me walk you through the items I bought from US and improvements I experienced with Shipping Cart since the last time I used their service.

My haul

My order from Sephora came with a free travel size Urban Decay Optical Illusion Primer, Cleansing balm, and perfume. The reason why I love shopping n Sephora US is that the quality of the products they sell versus the ones here in the Philippines are really good. I've seen so many complaints about damaged or even swatched make-up products being sent to customers from Sephora Philippines. Other than that, there prices are also doubled, sometimes tripled than the ones in Sephora US. Of course, you have to consider paying for shipping to Shipping Cart warehouse + another shipping to Manila. It is definitely worth it and you'll save more if you're buying a lot of items from US stores and have it all shipped in Manila.

 2. Lippies + Highlighter from Colourpop

I'm a big fan of Colourpop so I got these for my sisters so they can try them as well. If I can remember, I did purchased these products while they are having an online sale so I could have gotten them cheaper versus the price displayed in the photos above.

If you're shopping for Colourpop products, I suggest you buy in bulk so could save more. Prices of these lippies here in Manila go up at P400.00 - P500.00 per item.

3. Pringles from Walmart

This one should have come with other items as well but Walmart cancelled some of my others as those items became out of stock while I was purchasing so these Pringles ended up left on my cart. Which is a bummer cos shipping cost around $5.00. I would save more if the other items that I want went through.

It was also my first time shopping in Walmart. I do wish they have cheaper shipping fees.

4. Pajamas from Carters

These items got sold quickly and as of now the items are no longer on their website. What I love about Carters is that they offer a lot of online sales and you may wanna watch out for free shipping deals so you could save more $$$.

Overall, these items cost me about P1,600.00 shipping fee from US to my door step. I did wait over at least 3 weeks for all my item to arrive at their warehouse. However, 1 item from a beauty brand I was collaborating with in the US got left behind cos it arrived the day after I shipped these items. So, I'll probably ship that to me asap or I could wait a little longer and see if there are other items I want to purchase.

What I love about Shipping Cart

It's been almost a year since I last ordered and I've seen big improvements so far.

  1. It only took them them a day to put my items on my Cart versus before where I had to wait 2 - 3 days before I see my items.
  2. Shipping is really fast. REALLY. REALLY. FAST. I got this package processed for delivery Thursday and I got it Tuesday the following week!
  3. Customer service is superb. I did have an issue with one of the items n this package. A friend ordered from Amazon and had it shipped to my Shipping Cart address. Though Amazon confirmed that they delivered, it didn't appear on my Cart nor I did not received any notifications from Shipping Cart that they received the item. They quickly investigated and sent me a report and letter that I could send back to Amazon saying that they didn't get the item. Up to now, the item is still missing. My friend is a bit disappointed but he'll probably just request for a refund.

This is definitely not going to be the last haul. Considering I have one item got left behind at the warehouse. :) If you have questions, feel free to comment it down below. You might want to check out the links I posted above as those were more focused on how - tos, costing, and FAQs.

Fight mosquitoes with Cycles Sensitive Natural Insect Repellent this rainy season

July 4, 2017

Hello, July!
Hello, Tag-ulan!
Hello, Lamok!

The first week of July has been very pesky for us so far. We are dealing with so much insect bites eve though we sleep with the AC on at night. Arya has a lot of red, inflamed, mosquito bites on her leg. Kahit naka pajama na siya eh may kagat pa rin ng lamok!

As of this writing, Arya has four mosquito bites on her legs. I am not a fan of putting insect repellents growing up because the smell are either too bad and too strong for my nose to handle, they are also sticky to the max! At least, that's what I remember from my generation. It felt like OFF Lotion was our only option back when I was in grade school.

Fortunately, today, moms do have a lot of options when it comes to buying the right insect repellent for their kids. The one we are trying right now is the Cycles Sensitive Natural Insect Repellent. I got this from a previous blogging event that I went to and never really tried or got curious up until now that we are dealing with mosquitoes ourselves.

Cycles Sensitive Insect Repellent
  • Dermatologist Tested
  • Fragrance-fee
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Paraben-free
  • Extra mild formula tested safe for babies from birth up.

Label says:
  • Provides up to 3 hours of protection against mosquito and insect bites
  • Active ingredients: Citronella & Eucalyptus Oils
  • Lights and non-greasy
  • No added fragrances and dyes

Review:

Now, I'm not sure about this being fragrance-free as the label says but i does have a very strong Citronella smell. It has a very strong scent but not as much as it will hurt your nose or will make you sneeze.

What I love about this is that it is very light and non-greasy. As they promised. I put this on Arya's legs when she's asleep at night and I will generously put a lot of product and lather it gently on to her but the remaining product on my hands will dry up or get absorbed by my skin in less than a minute. Walang joke. Pasmado pa ang kamay at paa ko.

The only downside I can think of is that it only lasts for 3 hours so you have to re-apply frequently. I don't wake up in the middle of the night to re-apply btw. lol. But, as I said earlier, I do put a lot of the product on Arya's legs and make sure she's covered with her pajamas and blanket.

We've been using this for 4 days now and I've seen improvements. No more mosquitoes inside our room, the previous insect bites' redness were gone. I do have to say that Arya has 2 new mosquito bites she got from sleeping in the living room but they do look better now. Other than this product, I am also putting Katinko ointment on each bite to help with the redness, itchiness, and swelling.

So far, so good! Really loving this product. If you're someone looking for an insect repellent, better try this one too. I have honestly no clue as to how much this product is but feel free to check out their Instagram page so you can inquire. :)
