My Althea Beauty Box Haul

March 31, 2016

Yaaaay! Finally got my Althea beauty box
(For almost two weeks now, actually. Teehee!)

Althea is the the first Korean online shop that delivers authentic Korean beauty products all over the world. And it recently just opened its FREE shipping service to the Philippines! Yaahooo!

Being a fan of Korean beauty products, I immediately signed-up and ordered a few beauty goodies. I made sure to spend about P1,500.00 to qualify for Althea's free shipping to Philippines.

I placed my orders on a Friday afternoon and received the items after 3 working days. It was surprisingly awesome that they deliver fast and I didn't have to pick it up in the post office since they delivery door-to-door.

The box came on a fluffy enveloped and inside you'll see that all the products are individually wrapped in bubble wrap.

Unwrapping time!

Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream #23 - P560.00

CP-1 Scalp Soothing Injection - P80.00

The SAEM Healing Tea Green Garden Green Tea Cleansing Water - P270.00

Heelbow Tok - P280.00

Black Kill 3 Step Nose Pack - P70.00

Holika Holika Smooth Egg Skin Peeling Gel - FREE

Innisfree No-Sebum Mineral Powder - P260.00

My total spent is P1,520.00 :) Sulit!

I'm super happy with my beauty haul from Althea and I can't wait for my next transaction. I actually got some of my colleagues to order and share the box with me so we save money from shipping!

I suggest you try it too, it's super fun and their website is very easy to use. I'll be reviewing some of the products mentioned above soon.

When A Mom Misses Her Mom

March 30, 2016

"I miss my mom...a lot!"

Last night, my mom went back to Vietnam for work. Although she goes back home every month or so, I still felt sad and cried a bit last night.

"I am a mom, but I have a mom too, and I miss her too!"

Reason was, I didn't get to spend more time with her over the holy week because we had a Chicken Pox scare because my sister had it for about two weeks now and we are all afraid to get it too. We never had Chicken Pox yet and we don't have vaccines too!

We grew up being close to everyone on my mom's side of the family so now that I have a family of my own and I am away from them, It became difficult for me to accept that I cannot be around them most of the time.

Not being able to visit my grandma every week, not being able to see my siblings, and not being able to hangout with them with my Arya as often as I want saddens me. I miss them so much, really, really miss them a lot.

I honestly am really sad that I got myself some Ramen today to comfort myself.

Arya with her great grand mother

Four Generation of our family

I'm excited for Arya to grow up so we can spend more time with my side of the family, I can't wait for her to play with her crazy and loud lolas, to her bruha great grand parents, and share all the family weirdness.

To my mama,

Don't get super old yet. We have more things to do, places to see, and stories to tell.

Love you and miss you a lot. :)

Xoxo,

3 Products That Helped Me Beat Eczema Overnight

March 23, 2016

Just a week ago, my facial eczema started showing up again and I cannot help but to feel sad and ugly. Really ugly...

My usual go-to medicine for my eczema is just Dove original white soap and a really heavy face hydrating cream like Nivea and Olay. However, I just recently discovered that there are a few ingredients on those creams that I cannot use because of my skin type and eczema condition. My skin type can be normal - dry - and very very dry at times and I find it really difficult to bounce back when I get eczema and breakouts.

Finally, with the help of my beauty blogger friend, Cj of From Manila With Love, I was able to find the perfect products that will help me beat my eczema.

Before going through the products that I've been using, let me share to you this very important info that I bumped into from webmd.com

What to avoid:
  1. Glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and retinol. These products tend to dry out or irritate skin, which is a problem for people with eczema. The condition is partly caused by a weak skin barrier, which lets irritating chemicals get into skin more easily, and lets more water evaporate. So it’s best to avoid products that make that problem worse.
  2. Preservatives like methylparaben or butylparaben. They help keep cosmetics and skin care products from going bad or growing bacteria, but they can also lead to inflammation. Try using products with natural preservatives like neem oil or grapefruit seed extract when you can -- they're less irritating.
  3. Fragrances. No matter how soft and subtle a scent may be, ingredients that give fragrance to makeup and lotion can trigger eczema flare-ups. Your safest bet? Pick cosmetics that are made for sensitive skin (it will say so on the package). Look for those that say “fragrance-free” rather than “unscented” on the label. Natural or organic products are also usually free of perfumes, but read their labels to make sure.

What to look for:

  1. Shea butter, glycerin, and lanolin. These moisturizing ingredients repair your skin and help it look healthier. Look for skin care products that list one of these first, second, or third on the ingredients list.
  2. Hyaluronic acid. It helps draw moisture from the air to your skin. Smooth on cream with hyaluronic acid for an extra boost of moisture and to ease flaky, dry skin.
  3. Niacinamide. If red patches show through no matter how many layers of makeup you pile on, try a serum or cream that has this compound, also called vitamin B3. It can reduce redness from eczema by strengthening your skin’s natural barrier. Apply niacinamide cream first, then put on cosmetics.

Wellspring of Morocco 100% Pure Organic and Cold Pressed P800.00 at WM PH
Alba Botanica Even Advanced Sea Mineral Cleansing Gel P320.00 at Healthy Options
Avalon Organics Lavender Luminosity Hydrating Toner P280.00 at Beauty MNL

My personal reco and take on this is try to slowly switch to organic products. They are hypoallergenic and free from harsh chemicals.

I've been using Wellspring of Morocco Argan Oil for about a year now simply because 1. It's a family business and 2. It's just the perfect oil to give my face the hydration and other benefits from Argan Oil that my skin needs.

What to love:
  • Absorbed by the skin in 3-5 seconds after application
  • Affordable, 10ml P280.00 30ml P800.00 (exclusive of shipping fee)
  • No strong smell
  • Easy to spread on face
  • I use this as my cleansing oil / makeup remover too
  • Perfect moisturizer
  • Portable
What to hate:
  • Packaging. Sometime, it's a bit difficult to get the oil because there is no dropper. I also experienced some spillage on my bag when the opening is too big.
When to apply:
  • Before bedtime, the last thing I put on my face after toner
  • As primer, before I put on make-up

I recently bought this toner after Cj of From Manila With Love recommended it to me just 3 days ago. This is honestly the first time that I used toners because I am afraid of putting in too much product with alcohol in it.

Info below from Beauty MNL:

CLAIM TO FAME: A moisturizing toner to help balance dull skin
FAST FACTS: Hydrates, conditions, and refines with kombucha; evens out skin tone and texture by targeting brown spots and other signs of discoloration with vitamin C; primes skin for the next beauty step
PERFECT FOR: Removing any remaining traces of dirt and impurities after washing

What to love:
  • Scent. I love lavender so much so this is a plus point for me.
  • No stinging sensation when put on face
  • Face feels refreshed
  • No tight feeling

What to hate:
  • Price. It's currently on sale at Beauty MNL for just P280.00. Regular price is P3390.00. It's a bit pricey for me for a toner, But heck! Gotta invest if you want great looking skin!
When to apply:
  • Before bedtime, after cleansing and before your night cream / oil.

I just got the cleansing gel yesterday at Healthy Options and I stayed there sitting on their floor for about an hour trying to Google everything before I finally decided to buy it. Thank, God I did!

Info below from their website:

  • Powerful Marine Complex stimulates cell regeneration for a more balanced, uniform, even complexion
  • Frothy cleanser freshens and brightens skin
  • 100% vegetarian ingredients
  • No animal testing
  • NO: parabens, phthalates, or synthetic fragrances
  • Lather away the daily grime with this frothy cleanser that freshens and brightens your complexion
  • Naturally powerful marine complex, rich in sea minerals, stimulates cell regeneration
  • Washes away dulling impurities and gives a more even skin tone
  • 100% vegetarian, not tested on animals
  • All natural with no parabens, sulfates, phthalates, or artificial colors
What to love:
  • Gel type. Experts says that people who suffers from eczema should use gel type cleansers as it give the skin fresh and cool feeling.
  • Sulit. You'll only need pea size to cleanse your face.
  • Doesn't leave your skin tight after cleansing
  • You'll immediately feel your skin supple and hydrated.
What to hate:
  • Scent. It smells like a man's perfume and It is just too strong for me. The good thing is, the smell also comes off when you rinse.
When to apply:
  • Before bedtime, after you pre-cleanse (if you do)
  • Morning, before putting in make-up

Overall review:
I super duper love the combination of these products to fight my eczema. I used them altogether last night and my facial eczema now is almost gone and unnoticeable. The redness is gone, the flaky skin is gone, swelling of the area is almost gone.

Hope this helps!
If you have any questions about the products I used, feel free to leave your comments below or follow me on Instagram (@rookiemommyph). I reply there faster. Teehee!

Make-up Noob: Hauling starts now

March 19, 2016

When it comes to make-ups, a true friend who knows me so well will probably say,

"Are you sure that's the right shade for your skin?"

"No, no, you're not getting it right. Please, umupo ka nalang, kami na bahala sayo."

College years. Never in my college life that I initiated to put my own make-up. It is always my girl squad who will roll up their sleeves, prep their brushes, and let me sit for hours just so they can finish putting on make-up to my face; for every school event, I have them to make me prettier.

I only know how to put foundation, blush on, and lip gloss then and that stayed like that for so long until just recently, I don't know what's gotten into me. I started using the make-up that my mom got me and the next thing I know, here I am, getting addicted to foundations and bb creams.

Trust me when I say that I don't know anything about make-up. Just a newbie here.

I figured, heeeeey, why don't I put this on my blog so I get to help other young moms do their make-up too! Well, I honestly bet they now more about this than me, but heck! Pagbigyan niyo na ko. Teehee!

So, here on out, I'll am putting up a new tab on my blog about Beauty, focusing on reviews, why I like them, why I hate 'em, you know, all those info that you read on your fave beauty bloggers.

So anyway, this will be quick, let me just share with you the things that I have for now and I'll make sure to create a review for each of them.

Newborn Baby Shopping - A Buying Guide for Mothers

March 18, 2016

For new parents to be it can be a tough task to figure out what essential products are needed for a baby. Becoming a parent whether it is your first time or not, is a huge responsibility. Both the mother and father have to take care of a small child which requires a lot of patience and the right kind of stuff. Mothers tend to panic more than the fathers, do not worry anymore because here is a guide for mothers which will help them buy all the important products needed for a baby.

Baby Clothes and Shoes

Clothes are very important because a new born baby has to be protected from the weather. New born babies do not require much clothing items in the first few months. Buying all-in-one suits is a good idea because these are soft and keep the baby protected. In winters it is recommended to put a vest underneath the suit and a cardigan on top. There are thousands of colors and patterns that mothers can choose for their child. Dress your new born baby girl or boy in cute clothes. Also new born require no shoes, they can wear socks or thin boots.

Feeding Equipment

New born babies do not eat anything and rely more on milk. It is recommended to get at least 5 to 6 bottles, bottle brushes and sterilizers to clean the bottles. Since mothers are usually stressing during this time they often find it difficult to leave the house. Sometimes they are not feeling well and it can very problematic to go to a busy mall or store. A mother-to-be can now solve that problem by shopping online sitting in her comfortable couch or bed. Online shopping websites Kaymu, Ebay and several other online stores makes shopping for babies convenient and stress-free.

Diapers and Nappies

A new born child requires their diaper or nappy to be changed more than 12 times a day. For that mothers should get enough diapers and nappies. Also get wet wipes and powder so that the process of changing the baby’s diaper is made easier. Instead of throwing the dirty diapers in the dustbin, buy a diaper genie which is a disposal system bin. Since the baby requires to be changed often, a diaper genie can store a number of diapers at one time.

Bedding

Mothers should consider buying a Moses basket, crib or a cot. There should be a soft mattress with a bed sheet and a warm blanket. Babies tend to get sick very easily so it is very important to keep them covered. Besides bedding, parents should consider getting a changing table, rocking chair and a vaporizer. Purchasing a crib or cot is another stressful thing for parents. In order to avoid long trips to the store, get it delivered to you anywhere in Philippines by availing online services by Lazada.

Bathing and Grooming

In order to keep the baby comfortable it is important to keep him or her clean and groomed. Bath your baby in an infant tub or bath seat with room temperature water. Use mild baby shampoo, baby bath wash and dry the baby with hooded towels. For general grooming of the baby, get a set of nail clippers and nail scissors. It is also nice to have bath toys so that the child can have fun while playing. After the bath it is important to use baby lotion and baby powder to keep the baby’s skin hydrated.

Baby Proofing

For new born babies, baby proofing the house is not a big issue because they cannot crawl or do a lot of movement. However it is safe to have a faucet guard so that there no problems during bath time. Also if you have a big house then getting a baby monitor would be a good idea.
