Year 2: Celebrating Christmas and being grateful for the year!

December 23, 2016

Hey rookie mommas,

This might be the last blog post that I'll have for you before 2016 ends. I'm pretty much overwhelmed with work load, taking care of Arya, wrapping presents, and making sure Christmas is gonna be a bang!

This Christmas is gonna big for the family because a lot of our relatives from my mother's side came home and it is a family tradition to spend Christmas with my grandmother. Busy! busy! busy!

You probably notice the decline of my post. I have to blame internet speed and Korean novelas for not allowing me to update my blog. Whenever I do plan to make a new post for you, I ended up clicking VLC and watching Korean novela. I'm hooked! But, no worries, I promise 2017 is gonna be different. :)

I hoped I was able to do at least a few post to help you out this Christmas but I am really swamped with other stuff! Jeez! But, I hoped you follow me on Insagram coz I update it all the time!

There's a lot of things I wanted to be thankful for this year but I wanted to put emphasis on the following points, as a rookie mom,

I am thankful for:

My husband, who has an unending string of patience on my tantrums and self issues, who didn't give up on me on hard times, who keeps loving and fighting for our family.
My inlaws, who have helped me so much in taking care of Arya in any way possible.
My mom, who supported me all the way, and being all the kinds of panikera, na minana ko, and who kept me motivated to chase my dreams.
My sisters, who bugged and annoyed me every now and then,
My clients, who trusted and believed in my blog and what I stand for.
My Arya, who gave me so much happiness, back aches, and headaches. giggles!
My friends, who helped me keep my sanity, in most times.
My work, who brings financial steadiness to my family.
and to the universe, who brings me everything that I ever needed.

2016 has been a roller coaster ride for me, surviving year 1 of motherhood was not easy. I am hoping year 2 will be manageable.

I hope your year as a new parent gave you new strength and powers. Remember to wear your hero costume always, rookie momma, the world needs your love.

Our simple Macaroni Salad recipe

December 12, 2016

Cooking time!

Char lang!

My family and friends knows that I'm not good in anything that involves cooking. The dishes that I know how to cook are very limited and it is usually revolved around canned goods, pancit canton, and frying potatoes. I know, I know, I have a husband and baby to feed.

Luckily, we still live in my in-laws and my mother-in-law is such an awesome cook! She taught me how to cook my very first Tinola which, by the way, I miserably failed. I accidentally added too much fish sauce. Ugghhh...

Now, now, the star of this blog post is all about me learning how to prepare her special Macaroni salad! It is a fav comfort food in the house especially when it is frozen so we're really used to having macaroni salad even though there is no special occasion. This time, I volunteered to go to the Palengke to get the ingredients.

Rookie Mommy PH Macaroni Salad Recipe:

1. Macaroni Pasta - you can use any brand you like. For this one we are using the Royal macaroni pasta in yellow packaging.
2. Lady's Choice Mayonnaise - we like to use the pack instead of the glass mayonnaise because we don't want any left overs, plus the quantity is good enough for the batch that we are preparing. I don't think we have ever used any other mayonnaise brand before. It's our go-to Mayonnaise!
3. Chicken Breast - we boil it, remove the skin, and cut it to pieces.
4. Pineapple chunks
5. Carrots
6. Bell peppers
7. Salt
8. Sugar
9. Pepper
10. Onions
11. Cheese

This is funny, but we don't have a huge bowl to mix all of them together to we get the cover of our Turbo Broiler and there we mix and mix until the taste is good to our liking.

Looks yummy, right! We add the grated cheese only when we're ready to serve and eat. Don't add them and store them in the fridge as it might ruin the balance of taste overtime. :)

If you're thinking of serving Macaroni Salad this Christmas, make sure you get the freshest ingredient and make sure you only use Lady's Choice Mayonnaise! It's the only mayonnaise that'll make your Macaroni salad the creamiest salad in the world! Sabi nga sa commercial, diba? :)

Rookie Mommy PH - rookie cook na rin! Haha!

Sitio Naubo: A Christmas Story of Togetherness

December 1, 2016

Just how important light is to us?

Sitio Naubo is a small town in the outskirts of Dumaguete, Its residents thrives in darkness. They don't have electricity. Walang kuryente?  You might ask, in today's modernization how come there are still places left in the dark? And your follow-up question will be something like, Paano sila nabubuhay doon?

Watch how this community survive just by being together in Sition Naubo: A Christmas Story of Togetherness

Just watching the clip made my eyes tear a bit. For most people, Christmas is celebrated by having material gifts, going to parties, having a feast. But for the community of Sitio Naubo, Christmas is all about being together, being with family, friends, and loved ones. They value what they have and stayed positive human beings despite having no electricity - which I believe should have been part of Maslow's hierarchy of needs in this generation.

What melts my heart more is how they keep their positivity despite having less. They just have enough of what they, rather, they make things work.

In all honesty, I as a mom who is capable of living averagely, was inspired by their way of life. Focus on what you have rather than what you don't have, don't loose hope for things will be just fine, and family, friends, and loved ones is all that you need to celebrate Christmas.

Lady's Choice campaign is overwhelmingly heart-felt. It must have been a difficult task to light up a sitio but I am sure those difficulties became easy to accomplish when you see this kind of community. I wish other communities who lives in the dark can get their light too. I hope people will start caring more for these kind of communities.

A simple gift you can give this Christmas - a gift of light to Sitio Naubo. Spread awareness, spread the campaign. Share a photo of you with you family and tell why being together is the most important gift you'll have. For every photo shared will fuel Lady's Choice #ThankUTogether campaign to help light up this community.

See full details of how you can join the movement here.

Happy Christmas, everyone! May you bring light to every dark cities in the country.

Rookie Mommy PH - I helped light up a city. How about you?

Dear Klairs Vitamin C Serum Review

November 26, 2016

Hey, rookie mommas! and beautiful ladies!

I know, i know, I've been MIA in the past few days. Work has been really busy and the Christmas rush is already in the air - which explains the reason why I haven't really been up to writing and updating my blog.

For those who have been following my IG knows that I am currently following the Korean skincare regimen so I am trying and testing several products and brands that would work on my sensitive - eczema - skin and so I've recently acquired this by far the most impressive Korean skincare product that I have ever tried from my recent Althea haul as you can see below:

I took advantage of Althea's 2 + 1 promo where the cheapest product among the three products on your cart will be free, so for this haul my free item was the Skin & Lab Dr. Pore Glacial Clay Facial Mask - which I will be talking about very soon because I cannot seriously stop raving about this mask! Like, seriously! Best everyday mask evah!

I took me a while to find a Vitamin C serum because there aren't that much in the market here in the Philippines and most of the Vitamin C serums available aren't really using pure Vitamin C. Another reason is that Vitamin C is known to dry your skin fast as it is a strong product to be directly put on the face - which scares me a lot because I always get eczema on my cheeks! So I did a few research and found Dear Klairs in Althea and got really curious. I watched tons of Youtube videos, read blogs review, and did a lot of reading before I've finally decided to try the product.

Before I got into details of what it did to my skin, let's get to know Dear Klairs Vitamin C serum first.

Dear Klairs Vitamin C Serum (Image below from Althea website)

I have only been using Dear Klairs Vitamin C serum for about a week now and I have seen major changes on my skin sensitivity and tone. I did not felt any sting or itchyness, it did not dry out my skin, no breakouts. I did feel the heat effect when rubbing on my face but it didn't do any negative effect on my face - it honestly felt a bit relaxing. I noticed my pimples became smaller until it dries up, I notice the redness on my face from eczema were completely gone, the visible pores on my cheeks closer to my nose were noticeably smaller, and my face became smoother. Will definitely buy again!

How I use it:

2. I double cleanse with pure Argan Oil from Wellspring of Morocco
3. I triple cleanse with Mustela Stelatopia cream (Designed for eczema prone skin)
4. I tone my face with pure Witch Hazel toner from Healthy Options
6. Tone my face again with same product from #4
7. I use Dear Klairs Vitamin C Serum when the toner is fully absorbed by my skin.

Whew! That's 7 step already! I don't stop at 7 by the way, I still have an ampoule, essence and a heavy cream, so that makes it 10!

Dear Klairs Vitamin C serum is currently priced at P1,010 in Althea. If you're looking for an on hand readily available bottle here in Manila, you can check @darabeautymarket on Instagram, they sell each bottle for P1,000.

I highly recommend trying out this serum no matter what your skin type is. However, do your own research first and you need to check what your skin's PH level is, you have to understand the science behind it if you're a bit hesitant to buy. It did work on my skin well but might not work on you. So, do your research and watch reviews on Youtube! :)

You wouldn't be seeing any before or after pictures here because I am too lazy to document the changes.

Other products to watch out for a review:

This was my previous skincare routine before I got my serum and mask and I am loving how each of these product work on my skin and they don't clash. Let me know on the comments below which product you want me to give a review next!

I was just checking the entire line of Dear Klairs in Althea's website, maybe I'll be getting their cleansing oil and toner next. *giggles

Ti'll the next skincare review!

Not your usual snack: Chili Tamarind by Garahe Produce

November 13, 2016

Hello, Rookie Mommas!

It's been a very busy month so we got a lot of catching up to do! I know, I've been MIA for about 3 weeks now but now worries, I got a lot of new blog post lined up for you (and lots of giveaways this November) so you can keep coming back. And hey, #RookieMommyPHTurns2 in a couple of days so you have to watch out for the awesome stuff that I'll be giving away.

...and speaking of giveaways, here's something sweet and spicy to look forward to. A friend recently introduced me to this overly addictive snack called Chili Tamarind, it's basically tamarind added with a little spiciness to it.

Photo grabbed from my friend - Joan Paras

Of course, we are fairly familiar with sampalok or tamarinds that we usually buy in supermarkets or sari-sari store but what's different with this produce is that it is locally produced, made, and packed, it does taste a bit healthier too, I mean knowing that it is organically grown. You only pay P50.00 for a 250 gram pack! (Introductory price). They are fairly new and testing the market still so I suggest you better grab one pack before the price starts going up. BTW, they also sell dark chili chocolates!

I personally love it's taste, being in love with tamarind and anything sweet, spicy, and sour. So, I would like to announce that we will be doing a giveaway of this goodie on November 20, 2016 as part of #RookieMommyPHTurns2 giveaway! Mechanics will be posted on the blog by 20th so better watch out!

Do check out Garahe Produce Facebook page here and their Instagram account here.

How to plan your next vacation to Boracay adventure

October 24, 2016

Vacay planning time!

Since it is already the fourth quarter of the year and the government has already announced the holidays for 2017. Which you can check out here. I thought, it's time to plan our next vacation! Not only that we are planning for next year's summer but we are also planning Arya's probably either first plane ride to local or international destination. Whooo!

So, before I got married and have a baby, I visit my mom in Vietnam every year. It's like a tradition that I wouldn't want to break since it is the only time I usually allot to myself for total relaxation. But, if in case I cannot go, I always thought that Boracay or Palawan is the place to be. Rain or shine.

However, being in Boracay is already expensive enough. One of the things you have to make sure is to search for a cheap flight to Boracay or Kalibo so you can minimize your expenses

It's a good thing am super duper obsessed with planning ahead. The last time we went to Boracay, I planned it 6 months before the trip and I had to ensure eh-very-thang is all set and ready to go! I wanted to share how I planned my last Boracay trip and how different it will be not that I have a 1 year old daughter tagging along. Haha!

How to plan you next vacation to Boracay next summer

Book your flight first before hotel.
  • Because searching for flight is already hard enough and will take so much of your time so save the hotel for a later date. Usually, I book flights 3 or more months advanced. Why? So that I have more time to research on the place, save more money, and check hotels.
  • The tip is either you look for budget friendly airlines or wait for seat sales. However, seat sales doesn't really give you much freedom on travel dates because you have to travel on their specified date. We had a super duper horrible experience with Air Asia when we flew to Kalibo because our flight was almost 12 hours delayed. huhu And it was a deal flight that we got.
  • You can either fly to Kalibo or straight to Boracay.
Book your hotel 1 to 2 months before you arrive.

  • Because you can get a lot of super great deals and discount if you book way way before you get there versus booking a week before you actually step on their lobby.
  • In Boracay, there are 3 stations, hotels tend to be pricey in Stations 1 and 2 but you can still get a superb deal if you book advanced. When we went to Boracay, we booked at Punta Rosa Hotel in Station 1. It is beach front and ah-ma-zing! a week of stay cost us P15,000.00 (with breakfast) which could have been around P35,000.00 if we didn't book ahead.

Research on what activities you want to try in Boracay.
  • Because when you get there, you'll gonna realize that you don't want to try it all out. LOL!
  • There's gonna be a LOT of things to do in Boracay but go for the ones that makes the best memories. *Wink! *Wink! and less expenses, haha!
  • Check out: 25 Activities To Do In Boracay

Find a trusted tour guide before you even get to Boracay.
  • Because if you're a first -timer, you'll gonna end up spending a fortune on every activity that you might want to try, plus, get scammed by other tour guides. We don't want that.
  • Luckily for you, I can suggest someone! Yay! Ate Ira Masangcay and his husband were our tour guides in Boracay. We got her from a friend's recommendation as well and we didn't regret their service! Even before we arrived in Kalibo, she already planned everything and got us driver and van that will take us to Boracay. As in! From tickets, to boat rides, to every Boracay activity you want to do she'll book it for you - all for a low low price than the usual! I honestly don't know how she does it. But she's awesome!
  • Check out: Ate Ira Masangcay |

Tag your family members or friends along!
  • Because it will not only lessen your cost big time, but you'll also get loads of fun when there's a bunch of people whom you love with you!
  • My trip in Boracay was actually a planned small office trip but I decided to tag my boyfriend then now husband with us because I knew it's going to be more fun when he's with me. :)
  • When you're booking for a lot of people, the tendency is you'll get more discounts with flights and hotel, or in any other travel agency. So, on you net Boracay adventure, be sure to take someone with you!
I personally would like to go back again, now with Arya. But, I'm pretty sure that when I make a blog post for that trip the list for "How to plan for your next Boracay trip" will be so different! Of course, I have to include diapers, sterilizers, baby bottles, oh my god! The list os going to be endless! LOL! But, I do look forward to it.

A lot of my friends suggested I tried a much more kid friendly places for vacation like Cebu or Bacolod so I started checking out flights and hotels deals as early as now and I’ll let you guys know when we do decided to go to either of our 3 options.

That's that! If you have other tips, please leave them on the comments below! I would love to hear your thoughts.

Rookie Mommy PH - dreaming of the sand on my feet again. *sigh

Cheers to life. Cheers to everyday.

October 22, 2016

Once in a while, it's good to reminisce and get a little dose of laughter of what I have gone through as a rookie mom, and a wife. Sure, there has been a LOT of diaper changes and
remnants of poop stains but what's great about them is that they are both icky and memorable scenes of my early motherhood that brought my life so much cheer!

Sharing with you my most memorable cheer moments ever since Arya arrived in my life:

1. When she actually arrived in my life: and I was so excited I wanted to do the "Unang Yakap" routine to my baby when the nurse placed her on my chest. But, then when I was about to touch her, the nurses said NO because my hands might be dirty and we don't want to get the baby infected.

2. When the nurses took our first photo: and I was like super high in epidural. LOL!

3. When I finally was able to take her first smiling fresh-from-the-hospital photo: and I cannot jump up and down because my stitches is painful AF!

4. When we celebrated her Game of Thrones themed baptism and our cake is super duper awesome: and I didn't want to share it to everyone. HAHA!

5. When we're going shopping and she's nailing every single outfit in the baby section including the adult hats: and there I was spending a fortune in the cashier!

6. When we took her to her first play-date with her baby titos which is my baby cousin: Seriously, how cute is this?!

7. When we first celebrated Valentines Day and her father gave her a rose: and I got a bucket of fries. HAHAHA!

8. When she learned how to kiss when people tells her "KISS!" Kahit paulit-ulit pa hindi ako mag sasawang ikiss ka, anak. :)

9. When we both discovered we love fries so much: So we had to take a selfie behind our fav potato store.

10. When we celebrated her first birthday: and she was so cranky she hates everyone and wouldn't want to be put down on her stroller.

She doesn't want to let go.

Whew! There were a lot of memorable moments and I don't think I can summarize it all in one blog post. I mean, she's only 1. And I'm sure there will be a lot.

I am happy and touched that she's still young and doesn't want to let go of me. But, we all have to let go sometimes especially those nasty trashes and diapers that I had to deal with everyday. LOL!

I cannot emphasize enough how important tissue papers and trash bags are for moms. It feels like these products are made for moms. Seriously, just.for.moms!

Cheers is a trusted brand I trust when it comes to dealing with the stinky stuff. You can never go wrong with their flat napkins and trash bags that's for sure. They simply bring out the "cheer" in me whenever the garbage collector pick-ups the trash. They are very affordable, easy to dispose, and fits my every day need as a mom. So, don't forget to grab some the next time you go on a grocery shopping, you'll never know when you'll need that extra cheer!

Cheers to Cheers!
