Rookie Mommy PH - Let's give the gift of giving

A Rookie Mom's First Christmas!

Whew!

I'm so glad Christmas was over. Shall we breeze through New Year's Eve as well? I hope so!

Where do I start? I don't really know where to begin...

My first Christmas as a rookie mom and a wife started with packing our things for a 3 days and 2 nights stay at my side of the family, where we spent our Christmas eve. It has become a family tradition to go over our grandma's house to celebrate Christmas. It's also a nice way to get Arya accustomed to such practice. She wasn't able to open her presents because she slept the whole night, so I get to open them myself. *giggles

The yearly Christmas tradition of gift giving at my grandma's house

So, what did we get for Christmas?

I used to get a lot, but this year, Arya seriously got a LOT. As in ang dami! You can see that most of the items above are for her.

Wanna know which gifts are my fave?

Taaadaaa!!! I'm so happy that Arya received organic cloth diapers from Bamboo Dappy and Coco and Belle!

My most favorite is the new addition to my The Flash collection, no other than Barry Allen's The Flash figure from the series! Whoooo!

Overall, I think Arya had a wonderful Christmas, but I look forward for the next Christmas celebration that we will have. For sure, she'll enjoy opening her own presents!

Isn't she the cutest?

Here is Arya with her daddy

Enough with all the Christmas blah blah and let's get this post over with.  I still have a baby and a hubby to attend to. *laughs

Xoxo,
Rookie Mommy PH - Merry Christmas!

Cloth Diapering: Traditional Lampin + Baby's Underwear + Modern CDs

December 14, 2015

I love my DDs (Disposable Diapers) but I love Cloth Diapering more!

The rave and hype about cloth diapering is real and I never thought that I'd catch it. Until I realized how much I've been spending on our disposables...

I use Huggies Baby Dry and Mamypoko Slim Pants on Arya and we are very satisfied with them. We never experienced any leakage and rashes. I usually get 3 - 4 cases whenever there is a sale on Lazada and Cudsly. It will costs me around P1,200 - P1,500 per order with free shipping and those usually last for about a month or so. Not bad eh?

The reason why 200+ pieces of disposables can lasts up to a month for us is because we use cloth diapers during the day. I am not even talking about these modern cloth diapers but just your usual traditional lampins (cheese cloth).

Here's how we do it:

When Arya was about two months old, we started using gauze type lampin that I received during my baby shower. I have about 50 pieces of gauze type lampin today. Now that she's five months old, we bought small underwears and folded our lapins to look like pads and we just inserted the lampin pads inside the underwear and wear it on her. We only have 6 pieces of underwear at the moment.

Review: Folded gauze type lampin + underwear

Pros:

  • Great for presko time
  • Minimizes causes of rashes especially when you changed it as soon as is soiled
  • Tipid
  • Easy to wash and dry
  • Does not leave garter marks
Cons:
  • Underwear is not water resistant so there is 100% chance of leakage
  • Needs to be change as soon as it soiled
This type of cloth diapering is great for moms and babies who are always at home. You will likely have your eyes and constantly checks your baby's bum every after a few minutes or so but it is still worth every change. It only goes to your laundry and not in the trash, so that's definitely tipid!

Now, I wouldn't want to miss the whole experience of using modern cloth diapers so I grabbed a piece when I went to Baby Company.

This one is from Coco and Belle, it has a water-resistant outer shell and the inside comes with a stay-dry lining that is safe to touch baby's bum. It also comes with the basic microfiber insert which will serves as your "wiwi pads" that needs to be inserted inside the pocket of this cloth diaper.

Microfiber Insert
Microfibers are great inserts because it absorbs the liquid fast enough. Partnered with a stay-dry lining, it won't leave your baby's bum soaked on pee. One big no - no is to use Microfibers on top of your stay-dry lining, it will irritate your baby's bum and will result to nasty rashes.

Pros:
  • Lasts longer than traditional lampin. May use up for 2 - 3 hours before switching
  • Size is adjustable depending on baby's size
  • Comes in different styles and colours
  • Saves you a lot of money over time
  • Has a high chances of re-selling and being sold
Cons:
  • Washing and drying can take a while as it follows a different washing pattern
  • Can be a bit hot on baby if the weather is also hot
  • Can be a bit pricey when building your stash. Cloth diapers costs about P200 - P300 each. But, some online shops sells china nappies for only P150.00 with a free microfiber insert
In 2009, an expense chart with the use of disposable diapers came out and it made a huge impact on disposable diaper users,

Now, imagine how much this chart changed now that its 2015!

I knew a lot of mommas who exclusively use cloth diapers and known a few more to use both.

Me? I think we'll stick to both. Disposable are still great for night time use and whenever we go out. Plus, I can still score a few good deals when buying online. Cloth diapers are great for presko time and that is what I love about them the most. Well, maybe next to the cute designs the cloth diapers can offer.

Watch out for our upcoming posts over the next few days as we will feature awesome work-at-home-moms who sews their own hybrid cloth diapers that's made available to the market. Plus, come January 2016, Rookie Mommy PH has something in store for our new cloth diapering mommas!

Top 10 Christmas Gifts to Give to a Rookie Mom

December 1, 2015

It's the season to be jolly falalala-lalalalaaa!

December is finally here and we all know what that means, Christmas is just around the corner and shopping for presents is definitely part of our December to-do list!

But hey, aren't we forgetting something else? Yes, yourself!

Being a mommy is a 24/7 job and we often forget how to take care of ourselves. So, this Christmas, let me help you plan your Christmas wish list and hopefully, your husbands get a hint of what you really want this Christmas.

Don't worry, I'll leave a note for your hubby...

Top 10 Christmas Gifts For Your Wife or Mom

1. Pamper Day - I am putting this on #1 because no wife and momma will reject this gift. Women, in general simply loves pamper time. It's our way of giving thanks to ourselves for doing a great job with house chores and taking care of the kids.

Note to hubby:
I suggest you don't give your wife or your mom cash for her pamper day, because we all know that she's not going to spend it on herself. I suggest that you buy her a gift certificate from her favourite spa, hair, or nail salon and book her an appointment. That way, she'll be more happy and relaxed. Oh, and man up by taking care of the house and kids while she's out.

Or, if you don't want her going out because travelling is still a hassle, you can book a home service spa. I did it before with Spa Wherever You Are. Click here to read my review.

2. Lunch, Dinner, or even a Buffet Date - As much as we love complaining about our weight and the unhealthy food choices that we make, we still love food. Before all of the house chores and baby duties, we always go out on dates.

Note to hubby:
Time to look for a nanny! Well, that is if you have kids. Or, you can just ask a relative to look after your baby so you can take your wife on a date. This one doesn't need to be a surprise, but seriously needs some time planning because December is such a busy month. Ask her where would she want to eat, book a reservation and pray to God that everything will go smoothly. Top if off by taking her to see a movie or just take a stroll on the way back to home - where her endless duties awaits. You know, do those stuff before you two got married.

If you're on a budget, check out this blog post that I found from spot.ph where they feature buffet for only P300.00. Sweet deal! Click here.

3. Planner or Organizer - Women loves to be organized. Especially if you're working in between changing nappies and having a full time job. Planners helps us to keep our non-wifey and mommy duties organized.

Note to hubby:
There are tons of planners and organizers out there and I'm sure that you will not have a hard time finding the right one for your partner. You can ask her directly but that leaves no surprise at all. So, try to find out what kind of planner fits her best.

If your partner loves doodling and coloring, this one might be a perfect fit for her. I recently discovered this coloring book / planner called Ploodle. I plan on getting myself this planner as soon as it is readily available. It's already in pre-order stage so you might want to place your orders soon. It is currently priced at P750.00. I also heard that there will be collaborations with popular cloth diaper brands where they will produce cloth diapers that moms can color themselves. Sounds cool eh?!

Also, an updated list of other planners for 2016 from Rappler. Click here.

4. Cloth Diapers - If you're eyes widened when you read this then I believe that you are a member of MCNP and CDAPH on Facebook too. Why put this on the list? It's Christmas, duh! Time to get the cloth diaper that you've been dreaming about!.

Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper from Fluffy Pwets

Note to hubby:
This might feel like you're giving a gift to your child, but, seriously, you don't. I know a lot of mommas who got addicted collecting cloth diapers when they transitioned to it after disposables. Do your wife a favor and get her that cloth diaper that she's been blabbering about for months. Your kids will benefit from it too, plus, mother earth. So, rejoice!

5. Baby Carriers - Yes, yes, you're a member of BWP too, I know!

Note to hubby:
If you're wife has cd addiction, chances are she's have the baby wearing addiction too. It sort of a bundle, so that's that. You know what to get her for sure, you know, that brand that starts with TU and ends with LA. Or you can explore brands such as Lillebaby, Lenny Lamb, and Ergo carriers.

6. Vacation or Staycation - A breathe of fresh air and new scenery might help you loosen up .

Note to hubby:
Take her out someplace where she's never been to before. A simple getaway with you will be much appreciated. Sometimes, we do need a little vacay away from everything so we can get back on our toes. I mean, hellooo! Try being in her shoes where she's always at home or at work while taking care of everything else in between. You can try booking online because it's way cheaper. Try my personal favourites - Agoda and HotelQuickly.

If you want to try HotelQuickly, Click here so I can give you 600 credits where you can use as a discount for your booking.

7. Beauty Oils - The liquid gold is true. So, if you want to give your skin a boost overnight this is the answer.

Note to hubby:
There are several beauty oils that you can find on the market. You can ask her what she wants or you can just Google it. Different oils for different purpose. I, personally uses Argan Oil as my cleansing oil and night serum. It does wonders to me especially on days that I had enough. You'll see the effect overnight. You can also try Rosehip or Sunflower oils. Just remember to get the purest and 100% organic oil that you can find.

I get mine from Wellspring of Morocco but  I haven't done a full review yet. You can check out their Facebook page here.

8. Girls' Night Out - Girl, you need to go out. Seriously, with your girl bffs. Catch up and have fun!

Note to hubby:
You might have to literally drag your partner out of the house for this one. She will not admit that she wants this because there is a long list of house chores and baby stuff on her head but she needs this. So, grab that phone and email her friends for a night out. If you can make it a slumber party then you'll definitely giving her the best night of her life. Girls needs a lot of catching up to do. Plus, she will love you for this. Promised!

9. Gym Membership - Because you're not gonna get it yourself. Let someone else give it to you.

Noted to hubby:
Your partner will either love or hate you for this. But, hear me out, we will feel bad about ourselves when we start gaining weight and getting of of shape. As much as we want to hear you compliment our body figure, we know that you're only saying that out of love. We would get a gym membership but only if we have time to exercise. Sadly most of the time we don't. So, why not make time for her?

10. Quality Time - Both of you needs this.

Note to hubby:
Remember the times you and your partner used to before the wedding and the baby happened? THAT. Bring that back, at least for a little while. With the both of you busy with work house chores, and baby duties, your relationship might get neglected. And this happens a lot to rookie moms. Try to find the time to bond with your partner just like before. Keep the love and surprises coming so she doesn't forget that despite the happy changes, there's still that spark that remained between the two of you. I'm sure this gift will beat any gifts that you can think of.

Now should I send this list to your husbands? *giggles
