Natural Ways of Fighting UTI During Pregnancy

June 28, 2015
I have been there, done that, been there again, and still fighting it.

Urinary Track Infection (UTI) is one of the major infection that most pregnant women goes through for their entire pregnancy.

Including me...

I have been tested and been treating my UTI for the entire duration of my pregnancy and still treating it until now. My OB-GYNE prescribed me Cefuroxime Axetil tablet to be taken twice a day for seven days. I hated it. I hate drinking medicine. I was also reminded to drink lots of water, if possible 10 - 12 glasses a day and to drink fresh coconut juice. Which is what I have been doing in the past months already.

*Sigh

I never liked drinking medicines so I started researching the natural ways and remedies on how I can help my UTI go away until I safely deliver Arya. I stumble upon this wonderful article from www.healthdigezt.com and shared it with a few of my fellow mom friends.

Natural Remedies for Urinary Tract Infection

  1. Guyabano - They say this fruit is packed with vitamins and its leaves great for fighting UTI when boiled. I personally love to eat this fruit so I will definitely give it a try.
  2. Fresh Coconut Juice - Coconut Juice and its meat are known to be one of the best cure for UTI for flushing out the bacteria in your system.
  3. Ice Cold Glass of Fresh Water - Drinking water is the most natural way to flush out the bacteria and to cure UTI. It's always available and very cheap.
  4. Apple Cider Vinegar
  5. Pineapple

June 21, 2015
I am finally 36 weeks pregnant and getting ready to pop little Arya out to the world!

I have looked into so many references already about how I am going to organize my hospital bag when the big day comes but I just find the list so overwhelming that seems like I have to bring my entire bathroom and closet to the hospital.

So, I took the easy path and talked to a few relatives and friends who just gave birth and asked them the things that I will really need to bring at the hospital. It turns out I don't need to bring the entire house after all.

I pulled out my luggage and finally able to pack my things when it's go time.

Here's the official rookie mommy list for your final hospital bag:

  • 24 Pcs. Disposable Diapers
  • Cotton roll or balls
  • Alcohol 70% Isopropyl
  • Maternity pads
  • 3 Disposable breast pads
  • Feminine wash
  • Dry & Wet tissues
  • Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Soap
  • Baby wash or soap

  • 1 Rubber Mat

  • Make-up Kit (because you have no excuse not to look good)
  • Fully charged Powerbank with iPhone and android phone cables.
  • Portable camera with charger or battery
  • Small notebook with reminders and notes to my partner with the following:

Our Discovery of 100% Pure Argan Oil: Now Made Available in the Philippines

June 8, 2015

This will be a really long story and might bore you but if you’re really interested and loving Argan Oil as much as we do then you will love this post.

It’s already been almost a year since I started using Argan Oil. What made me do so? I have super sensitive skin plus a mild case of eczema of my face whenever the weather is changing. I randomly saw some posts and feed back about Argan Oil coming from Korea which made me search for Argan Oil that is available in the Philippines.

Sadly, looking for a legitimate and 100% pure argan oil was not an easy feat. You see, Argan Oil is one of the rarest oils in the world and its benefits are priceless. Argan Oil can only be made by extracting the oil (by hand of the tribes of Berber women or by the using a slow pressing machine) coming from the kernels of an argan fruit or nut from an argan tree which can be found in Morocco. Sounds amazing right?

I was able to find some online stores and specialty stores that offers and claims to be selling 100% pure argan oil. Argan Oil is not cheap; it is very pricey. A few ml on a bottle can cost a lot. So I tried a few brands and very pleased with the results. I stopped using all my beauty products for about a week and used 2 drops of argan oil on my face in the morning and before I sleep at night. My face lightened, my eczema subsided on the third day and completely gone by end of the week, my pimples also dried and my skin started to glow. It was obviously a dream come true. I mean, seriously, this is just oil and it did so much on my skin already. So I just stick to this routine since then until now and I never had any eczema anymore and my skin became clearer. I was scared to switch back to my old routine so I bought more argan oil.

My sisters then, who have a lot of skin breakouts, started noticing the changes on my skin. I told them about the argan oil and where I bought it. I actually told them to buy their own it is extremely pricey, but since I still have a lot and it’s not like they have enough money from their allowance, I just gave in and gave them a few ml in a shared bottle. Their trial with the oil worked wonders too! Soon, when my mom arrived from Vietnam, I told her to purchase herself a bottle too and let her friends and co-workers try the product too. So she ordered herself a few bottle and took it to her in Vietnam. My mom was probably the most excited and passionate about using the argan oil since it also did wonders to their skin. And that’s when she saw the opportunity it make this our family business. Okay, why not?

We had a lot of questions along the way, how and where we will able to get a pure argan oil? How do we know it if is really pure? How about the legalities and documentation? How do we get people to try the argan oil – because this is the only way for them to believe the great benefits and effect that we are talking about, and when do we start selling?

As I mentioned before, my mom is really in to this, 100% serious and ready to invest. So she started directly contacting tribes and farms in Morocco that will be able to help us with our supplies. She started looking for bottles, and me and my partner started thinking of brand names, logos, packaging designs, etc.

Everything eventually falls into places. We were able to get a legitimate supplier from a farm in Essaouira Morocco that not only supplies us with pure 100% organic argan oil, but also educated us of all the things we needed to know about argan oil, bottle supplier, printed and finalized our logos and labels, and of course, processed the registration of the business.

We weren’t ready to launch it yet before letting a few of our friends try the first batch of our argan oil. So what we did is we gave out free samples of 3ml bottles to our friends via my Facebook account and lo and behold a lot of the actually wanted to try the oil! I was so happy even though we were giving the oil for free – the important thing is that they were able to try and see the results first before actually spending money on expensive oil. When they gave their feedback, I made sure to document everything and asked for their permission if I can later use it for marketing materials and they said yes. They are now our first and loyal customers and very much satisfied with our product. :)

Now, to cut this very long story of our Argan Oil journey, we are now slowly transitioning and making a few marketing efforts in our social channels so that a lot of people can try and enjoy the benefits of Argan Oil.

I will not mention the previous oils that I have tried before as we have discovered that they are not really 100% pure argan oil – but they still deliver great benefits. The problem with these other brands is that they claims to be 100% to customers who are not knowledgeable what 100% argan oil looks, feels, and smells like, most of the time, these oils were mixed by other carrier oils which lessens the potency and effect of a 100% pure argan oil.

Our product, Wellspring of Morocco Argan Oil is a premium quality product of pure and genuine organic and 100% Argan Oil. Baby Shower Loot: SaYa Baby Carrier

June 5, 2015

Babywearing was never on my mommy-duties list before. I don't even know what babywearing is until I came across a Facebook Page called Babywearing Philippines. I learned a lot about the technicalities and know-how of babywearing and it got me interested.

One particular brand that caught my attention is the SaYa baby carrier. I just fell in love with their products and the colors of their wraps and thought that this will be perfect for a newborn.

I immediately included this on my baby gift registry and again was very happy when I got one in Oatmeal color, size small.

The SaYa brand offers a wide range of product, sizes and colors. You can easily reach them through their Facebook Page and make a purchase straight from them or from their stockists.

Babywearing in general can be overwhelming and confusing at first since not all baby carriers are ergonomic, approved, and safe for our babies. If you are also new to this and interested to baby wear, I recommend that you join Babywearing Philippines Facebook Page. Oh, and please don't forget to read the pinned post first before doing anything else. :)

Happy Babywearing, Rookie Mommy!

Baby Shower Loot: Baby Bottles for Breastfeeding

June 4, 2015

I planned to breastfeed, and by that I mean the baby feeding on my breast and on a breastfeeding suitable bottle with a breast milk. There are certain brands that offers the comfort of mimicking the breast of the mother that helps the baby feed on the bottle.

These bottles were included in my gift registry and I was so happy that some of my friends purchased them.

1. Mimijumi Not So Hungry Bottle, 120ml

"Mimijumi bottles are made from swiss nylon, which has all the benefits of glass, but with the durability of plastic!"

Mimijumi is available in the Philippines but it is so difficult to find them. Most of them can only be bought in online specialty stores and in BaoBao Babies in Cebu. They have two sizes for their baby bottles: (1) Not so hungry bottle, 120ml priced at P980.00 and (2) Very hungry bottle, 240ml priced at P1,100.00.

Where to buy online: www.cudsly.com

2. Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Newborn Starter Kit

The newborn starter kit includes (2) 5oz bottles, (2) 9oz bottles, (1) cleaning brush, (2) nipple teats, (1) newborn pacifier.

Tommee Tippee is probably one of the best baby bottle for breastfed babies that I have heard. I've already read several reviews and watched videos about this product and I can't wait to use it on Arya soon.

Tommee Tippee is widely available in the Philippines. You can easily get them in malls and you can also purchase them online

3. Glass Baby Bottles

Another gift that I received is an Elmo, Sesame Street glass bottles. Glass bottles are much more preferred than plastic and generally safe for everyday baby use. The only challenge I have with the bottle I received is to look for the perfect nipple teat.

Do you know any bottles that are good for breastfeeding as well? Don't forget to share it with us in the comment section.

Xoxo,
Rookie Mommy Ph - 33 weeks pregnant and very excited to try out these bottles.

How I Organized My Own Baby Shower

June 3, 2015

Throwing myself a baby shower was one of the most fun events I have organized for myself. I mean, who doesn't love cutesy stuff, catch-up time with friends, and presents?!
I love presents!

My baby shower was simple and fun. Our guests were composed of our closest friends from college and work. My overall objective of the baby shower is for us to finally complete our baby item needs and wants, but catching-up and seeing their faces after so many months made the event more exciting for us.

So, how did I organized my own baby shower? Here are a few steps and tips:

1. Create your baby shower gift wishlist: It's easier for you if you'll list the things that you still need before the baby arrives. It also gives you an idea which items will be included in your gift registry. I made my list via Google Spreadsheet which all the guests have access with plus adding notes where they can buy the items in mall stores or online.

2. Create your gift registry: It's free and fun! I made my baby shower gift registry via SM Fairview Baby Company and SM Department Store. Both of them offers 10% off discount to all your items and guests who will purchase the things that you put in your registry. You can also verify which items have already been bought and which are not which made gifting easier for your guests. Don't leave this out, it's fun! fun! fun!

3. Create a Facebook Group for invited guests: You will always want to update your guests about the event details and changes as the date grew nearer. I made mine 3 weeks prior to the event to give the guests enough time to RSVP. This is where we also posted our official baby wish list link, gift registry instructions, and venue map.

4. Rent tables and chairs (if you need to): We held the baby shower in our garage so I needed a few tables and chairs for the event. We contacted Fun World Party Needs via their Facebook page 2 weeks before the event to rent a few round tables and chairs. You can ask them to set it up for you if you want to. They are easy to talk to and offers really good and professional service.

5. Giveaways: You cannot forget your giveaways. This is the next important thing next to food. I originally planned to just create loot bags with sweet stuff but my auntie, who is an owner of chocolate and customized packaging business offered to do the giveaways for my shower. Yaaay! You can literally customize everything from chocolates down to the packaging. Mine is a storybook like with a yummy white chocolate inside:

You may contact Lourdes Torres of Guilty Pleasures at
Mobile: 09083629650 | email: guiltypleasures.choco@gmail.com
*Their business is still new and their website is still under-construction.
You may directly email them for samples and pegs inquiries

6. Food and Drinks: You may opt to stick with easy to eat food or buffet style. This totally depends on you. Ours was composed of really heavy meals since our shower was done in the afternoon until late night.

7. Plates, spoons, forks, and garbage bags: This is pretty much self explanatory. We don't want to wash dishes so we opted to go for everything disposable. Saves a lot of time.

8. Games: We originally planned for games but ended up not having one because we enjoyed talking and catching up with each other that ate the entire party time. But hey, it's always good to prepare one just in case you needed to warm up your guests.

9. Cameras: Take lots of photos or selfies as much as you can. Or you can also ask your guests to take them for you if you are busy running around entertaining them. You'll be needing these memories for you album to show your baby soon.

10. Gift cards and letters: I asked my guests not to forget to include a gift card or letter with their gifts so I can keep them and show it to Arya when she's older. I've always been a keeper of love letters and cards since I was in elementary and I wanted to do the same for Arya. I know she will appreciate all the memories when she is older.

Overall, it was a fun and little bit stressful day for us. Opening presents was one of the best things that we did at the end of the day. I will definitely put the on the blog soon as I organize my mommy and baby bag. :)

Xoxo,
Rookie Mommy Ph - 33 weeks pregnant, scared and excited.

A&A Wedding 2015: Casa Renato & Wedding Bands

June 2, 2015

The past weekend has been nothing but pure bliss, along with the stress of making things fun and perfect for our closest friends and relatives. Following our baby shower last Saturday, me and my partner, now husband, officially tied the knot the following Sunday evening, May 31, 2015 at Casa Renato Mediterranean Restaurant.

Although our wedding was simple, searching for the perfect place and wedding bands was not an easy task. Our wedding bands was simple and special as well. We have Googled a lot of stores that will allow us to purchase immediately and conveniently - this lead us to Zoey.Ph. Zoey PH is one of the popular, classic, online stores that sells imported and affordable engagement and wedding rings. The store is online and mostly managed overseas. Once you made your ring purchase, you will be meeting with the mother of the owner for your fitting and purchase.

I was eyeing on a lot of wonderful rings but we have found it difficult to choose the correct color for my partner's skin tone. We both fell in love with the classic Silver Grove Titanium Wedding Bands which matched our skin tone perfectly.

Our wedding was short, simple, and sweet; And although there was no entourage and long gowns involved, the feeling was still as amazing as I thought what weddings would be like.

Now for the venue,
Casa Renato is a special place for the both of us. We both shared a few memories of celebrating our dates and birthdays at this place. Even then, we have already decided that someday we will book the entire place for our wedding reception. So, when we decided to get our civil wedding going, we did not hesitate to book a room at Casa Renato where we held the ceremony and the reception. The place is so rustic and romantic that everyone fell in love with Casa Renato.

Our family and relatives,

Arvin's family

Arra's family

In time, we also wished to share this wonderful experience with our friends. Maybe we'll have another wedding here when our little Arya arrive. By that time, we'll already have our little flower girl and will definitely book the entire place.

We we're once toured by the lovely owner of Casa Renato, Ms. Grace. Which eventually made us love the place more. Oh, and by the way, the food is as amazing as the place. I strongly recommend everyone who reads this to check Casa Renato, take your family and friends here, or maybe propose to your girlfriends here.

Casa Renato is located at 7 Dahlia Avenue, Fairview, Quezon City.
You may visit their Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/CasaRenato
